This will be our last blog post….because…..we’re transporting everything to our new website! It’s taken a while but it’s finally up and running! We took a few ideas from our old site and blog and fused them into something with a new look, a fresh feel, and more functionality. Click here to check it out!

Studio Red creates it’s first full length show

In 2008 we began a really awesome partnership with the great people at Hawaii Bride & Groom Magazine and Time Warner OC16 and embarked on a project…The Wedding of a Lifetime 2008 where some of the top wedding industry professionals in Hawaii got together to give a deserving couple their dream wedding worth $85,000.

This year’s winning couple was Jayne Durapan and Kahele Anderson of Waianae. We just recently finished creating a 1 hour TV special that documented their entire journey from the moment they won, to the planning stages leading up to their wedding, to their dream honeymoon on the island of Kauai. Here is an excerpt from the show. More to come!

Derek + Lynn • Wedding Day Highlights (Same Day Edit)

The newly renovated Royal Hawaiian Hotel had a grand *Christening” this weekend. The Hiyane & Sato families gathered with their friends to celebrate the wedding of Derek & Lynn. For the team here at Studio Red it was an event to remember. With a beautiful beach side ceremony & the Monarch Room beautifully decorated & elegantly lit for the reception, this was cinematic heaven.

Here are the ceremony highlights played at the reception.

Mel + Todd • Wedding Highlights

The first wedding for Studio Red in 2009 is one that we’ll never forget. Todd & Mel truly are the definition of heart, kindness, beauty, strength, patience, love…they are it. The entire day was filled with a ton of anticipation and emotion for the both of them and their family and friends. There was a ton of tears, laughter, and smiles…every moment totally inspired and impacted us as the day progressed. Here is the final edit that we showed to them during their reception..their wedding day seen through the eyes of Studio Red.

We love ya Todd & Mel!

Kyle + Gracie • Wedding Highlights

This past weekend the Studio Red team had the opportunity to end the year with an incredible event. We were blessed to have the opportunity to capture the amazingly beautiful wedding of Kyle & Gracie Dowd. Their big day was not without its challenges but God had already destined the day to come and so it would. With the bride & groom hopelessly stranded in Seattle just days before the wedding, prayer chains were mobilized. When the only two seats left leaving Seattle were filled with a now hopeful bride & groom, God’s grace was made evident to them. I can only conclude that the beautiful wedding day that unfolded was more than Kyle & Gracie had asked for or imagined. It truly was a stunning scene of God’s blessings and a couple whose love is great for each other and the Lord. It was unforgettable, just the way you want to end a year! Many mahalos to Kyle & Gracie!

We wanted to also send our warmest mahalo to Kyle & Gracie’s photographer Frank Amodo who we had a blast working with!

Here is the highlight video we presented to Kyle & Gracie during their wedding reception.

A Teachers Legacy

In continuing with our legacy series we were blessed to capture the story of Amy Bruhl, a teacher in the Kailua community who has since passed on but has left a lasting impression on many of her students. This is an amazing tribute to all our teachers and what they mean to our kids and community.

Touching perspective…

I just found this link while surfing the web and just was touched to the core of my heart. May it bless your heart today. What an amazing young boy.

Love rocks!

Ok…so we were driving one day and had Lifehouse rockin out in the CD player and heard a song that made us immediately think of this couple, Kei & Chanelle. It was the perfect song for their ceremony highlights video! It wasn’t the typical love ballad and it matched their free spirit and deep love for each other. For one solid week we repeated the song in my car and had visions of what their Ceremony highlights video would look like. Well after a million repeats of the song, a fun video shoot in Waikiki, and a XBOX 360 Rock Band session, we created this upbeat and rockin ceremony highlights video that we presented to them during their wedding reception.

Special thanks to Kei & Chanelle for the Cinnabon Mocha Latte Chills…trust me you gotta try one!

The Wedding Story Experience of Monica & David

David & Monica from the Bay Area were planning a destination wedding on Kauai and wanted something different as far as videography. They originally browsed our site and became hooked on our “Wedding Story” features we had online. They decided to go with a package that included a “Wedding Story” feature. Their decision to have the video feature didn’t initially didn’t go well with some of their family and friends. The hesitation and expectation that it was going to be just a group of pictures came with the suggestion from people to “spend your money on something else”.

Well in the end they chose to do the “Wedding Story” feature and the response from them and their guests after watching the video has been phenomenal. In a future post we’ll have Monica & David share from their own words what the whole experience has been like for them.

In addition to their wedding story video we edited and presented them with video highlights from their ceremony and finished it in time to show during their reception. Special shout out to David & Monica’s photographer, Shawn Starr who’s work continually inspires us.

Leaving a Legacy

“Tell me a fact and I’ll learn. Tell me the truth and i’ll believe. Tell me a story and it will live in my heart forever.” - Indian Proverb

At Studio Red we hold this quote near and dear to our heart.

This past year we had the honor of capturing and creating a collection of videos highlighting some of the most amazing people in the history of Hawaii. Even though they have passed on, they have more importantly left us with a legacy that will live on in our communities forever. In the weeks to come we’ll be posting a few of these heartfelt stories in hopes of inspiring and impacting you in some way.

Here is the first in a series of four short stories.

We’re gearing up for a new season…

We are slowly winding down to the end of an amazing year for studio red. The numbers have been staggering…we’ve nearly tripled the amount of work we’ve done this year compared to last and 2009 looks to be even busier!

As we enter into our third year we are looking forward to pushing the envelope even more. We have a new and improved website on the design table slated to be filled with new video features and fresh samples of a few weddings we’ve done during the year. We also have a new section we’re working on called “where are they now?” highlighting couples sharing their experiences of life after the wedding and their experience with working with us. One of the videos follows a couple in Boston! We had a chance to interview them during a stroll through Boston Common Park, the place where they filmed Goodwill Hunting.

We are also highlighting a couple from San Jose, California and their tatoo shop…yeah more on this one later! Stay tuned!

Brandon & Rachel • Wedding Day Highlights

We had a great time doing the cinematography for Brandon & Rachel’s wedding day. They had a morning ceremony and an evening reception allowing plenty of time for an amazing (photo) shoot at Valley of the Temples. It was a great celebration for them to share with their family and friends and though some of the wedding party and guests were a little camera shy, they all let loose and had a great time! From the moment we arrived to the very last song of the night Brandon & Rachel were all smiles.

This is their ceremony highlights we presented to them during their reception.

Aaron & Jill • Wedding Day Highlights

The weather called for rain but God opened up the day with nothing but sun and blue skies for Aaron & Jill’s wedding day. Aaron had the coolest wedding band with links and inlaid ceramic…definitely the coolest wedding band i’ve seen.
Their photographer, Stephanie Reidel and her daughter Anna were a joy to work with.

Congratulations Aaron & Jill!

This is their video highlights we crafted and played for their reception.

The Legacy Video Series

We’ve had the opportunity to capture some great weddings in the past years, but nothing gets us more excited than capturing people’s stories. We’ve begun offering a new service that we call “Legacy Video Series” in which we sit down and do an autobiography of people or that special someone…capturing and perpetuating their heart and story through video.

One that we’ve done recently was for the Arcayna Family. Ben and Daisy Arcayna celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary and we spent time with their children as they shared their thoughts and experiences with their mom and dad. We also captured and ended their “Legacy” video with Ben & Daisy’s renewal of their vows ceremony. Click here for their video.

We also did a video project for Hospice Hawaii that recently won a national Telly Award. The project was called “Heros” and highlighted people that have passed on and have left a lasting legacy on Hawaii and it’s people. One of the videos highlighted Michael Tongg, a well known waterman in the state of Hawaii. The other is Loretta Richert, a woman best known for her racing in Hawaii. Her boat is on display in the Smithsonian.
